HOW TO TURN A WALK TO THE ROMAN CASTLES INTO A LUXURY TOUR

The landscape of the Alban Hills between taste and culture

In ancient times the favourite summer destination of the Roman nobility, the area of the Alban Hills, better known as the Castelli Romani, is a small paradise just outside the chaos of the city, characterized by ancient villages, picturesque villages, medieval castles and picturesque volcanic lakes. With its many historical, artistic, archaeological and culinary attractions, this landscape always attracts many visitors to spend an unforgettable out-of-town trip.

A tour in luxury car to discover the Roman countryside

A suggestive day immersed in history, in the name of taste, to discover the beauties of this territory with its peculiar food and wine and naturalistic features. An exclusive tour in luxury cars where you can discover local traditions and flavours, passing through the most suggestive and characteristic villages of the territory: Frascati, Ariccia, Nemi, Castel Gandolfo. Let yourself be fascinated by their particular beauty.

Frascati, the city of wine

Starting from via Veneto by car and following the route of the Via Appia and Via Tuscolana, the first village that deserves to be visited is Frascati, famous for its wine production and, together with its panoramic position and the presence of sumptuous noble residences late Renaissance and Baroque, is considered the symbol of the country of the Castelli Romani. There is also an outdoor visit to the gardens of Villa Aldobrandini, whose position dominates Rome and the village of Frascati, from which you can see a 360 degree panorama of Rome (the gardens can be visited from Monday to Friday in 9-13 and 15-18 hours). After the visit, the tour continues discovering the centre of Frascati: along the main avenue you pass through the cathedral of San Pietro Apostolo, you enter the inhabited centre where you meet the old cellars, today the seat of a “widespread” museum, which shows the winemaking process. The route at the end includes a tasting of the famous local wines, which can not miss in this place.

Ariccia, the home of the porchetta

Starting off from Frascati by car, you will drive through the Roman countryside towards Ariccia, crossing Grottaferrata, Marino, Castel Gandolfo and Albano. The arrival is announced by the monumental Bridge of Ariccia, one of the most important engineering works of the nineteenth century. You can visit the small medieval village starting from the main square, Piazza della Repubblica, dominated by the imposing Palazzo Chigi and the complex designed by the architect Gian Lorenzo Bernini: the fountains and the church of Santa Maria dell’Assunzione. But Ariccia is above all the country of the pig, local gastronomic specialty, which represents the main reason of its world popularity. It is worth having lunch in one of the typical local taverns, the fraschette, and taste the typical dishes of Roman cuisine accompanied by the famous local wines and bread of Genzano, a homemade PGI, leaving the dessert still pending.

Nemi, the strawberry village

Leaving Ariccia, the gastronomic tour ends in Nemi, an ancient village that has preserved its peculiar medieval aspects, mainly known for the strawberry festival and the lake of the same name. Enjoying a privileged panoramic view of the lake, you can enjoy excellent strawberry cakes in one of the typical bars of the village.

Castel Gandolfo, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy

Returning to Rome, the tour ends with a walk along the shores of Lake Albano and the centre of Castel Gandolfo, an elegant medieval village, considered one of the most beautiful in Italy for its position and historical evidence. The main square of the village is characterized by the presence of the Pontifical Palace, from which the Pope recites the Sunday Angelus in the summer, and the Church of St. Thomas of Villanova by the famous architect Gian Lorenzo Bernini. Famous also for the Pope’s summer residence, Castel Gandolfo boasts a privileged view of the lake and has characteristic corners, views and panoramic points that allow you to admire the beauty of the surrounding landscape in which the town is immersed, the Regional Park of the Roman Castles.
